Kids on Campus: Addressing Child Care Needs through Head Start and Community College Partnerships
The chronic shortage of affordable child care leaves many student-parents struggling while pursuing postsecondary education. Nearly half of college students with children under six meet the income requirements for Head Start, yet only fewer than an estimated 130 community colleges have on-site HS centers. Kids on Campus, an initiative by the Association of Community College Trustees and the National Head Start Association, aims to increase the number of Head Start programs on community college campuses.
